zip attachments

I work online and send multiple password protected zip files per day. All of
a sudden, after sending/receiving .zip files for years, at the end of March
2006, I was unable to receive zips, and then could not longer send them
either. At first it was sporadic, but now it is the norm.

After hours of investigation in conjunction with my ISP, it was discovered
that Outlook is showing the zip files as having been sent, when in fact, they
are never leaving the computer. We know this, because in our test cases,
even with the security software/email scanners turned off, the zip files
still never reached the the IPs server.

Any suggestions on where to look now and/or how to correct the problem?

I've used Outlook for years and it has worked fine, up until about the end
of March 2006....

Have you enabled diagnostic logging in Outlook to see what's happening?
Since you haven't bothered to mention your Outlook version, see the
following for Outlook 2002/2003. if you have another version, you can look
for yourself.

how are you verifying they never left your computer? if you use RTF format,
it will look as though they are not on messages if you view them with OE.

if they are in fact not getting sent, how long is the message open before
you attach the zip? if long enough for autosave to kick in and the message
is sent before a second autosave, it's a known issue. Hit save before
sending - if it works, then it's this problem. Make sure you have the latest
updates for your version of outlook.

The files are not open for any more than a few seconds....long enough to
complete a message and attach the zip file. I'm using plain text format.
Yes, I always hit save before sending a message, but that seems to make no
difference. I know the messages are not leaving the computer because with
the testing that the ISP and I ran, we were able to successfully send zips
from Outlook Express on this computer and from both OE and Outlook on the
laptop, and on his end, he could watch them go in and out of the ISP
server....when I sent with Outlook on the desktop, they never reached the
server, which means they didn't leave the program.

I use Office 2003 and I have installed/reinstalled, and updated everything
with any updates available....and this problem seemed to manifest itself
after the updates at the end of March....it was working fine up to that point.

Logging was turned on after I talked with the ISP and the only thing in the
log is when I changed the default from OE back to Outlook yesterday. There
is no record of anything being sent, saved or otherwise, altho I've been
doing testing all morning, which would indicate that the files are not
leaving the program. Please see below....the logging has been turned on for
a week and this is the only thing in it.

*** Starting First Run (05-07-2006 13:23:13) ***
....HrPreSplashFirstRun called.
....HrPreLogFirstRun called.
....HrPostLogFirstRun called.
...... FCheckFirstRunStatus failed reading machine value "17019"!
....deleting WAB4/UseOutlook because we're using MAPI.
....writing UUID to HKCU.
....setting Primary Client to Outlook.
*** Ending First Run (05-07-2006 13:23:17) ***

I wasn't talking about the ISP's logging. You certainly won't see anything
about OE in Outlook's log and it is that log to which I was referring.

you'll need to enable logging to see whats going on.
