Had a disk crash and cannot get to input password

It is xp Pro SP 3 and after the re-install I now get it to come on without
having to input the password.

I have followed instruction and tried to change the way that people lock in from
the XP to the Classic - managed that once and it still did not require password
- did a Ctrl-Alt-Del and it still shot straight into full use by A-N-Y
administrator - please help - it cannot be a very safe situation.

Control panel > User accounts > "..pick an account to change" > Create a
password

This does not work?

Well yes and no. I even installed a new (stupid) picture as well. I now get
somewhere in that I get what looked like the the start in W2k but the name and
password is already there - however it is the wrong one (the old name) and
another window on top telling me to make sure that I get the right name and
domain. Click on that and we are back to the XP2 picture wher the users are
shown with pictures and for my new name and picture I get the chance to input
the new password.

I am wondering if when I re-installed the Windows XP 2 Pro, I should have left
the name and password empty - I do not remember if that is what I did in a prior
installation. I shall go back and change the name and password to the first
chosen one - ie. the ones I gave the computer at the install.
