Cannot use MS lifeCam since install SP3

nesredep egrob

I try to install this monster and it comes up with an error message that it
cannot delete MSCamSvc - I believe that as I have searched for the file and
allowed the search into hidden and protected files - it is not there.
I ignore that and it eventually comes up to tell me that It canot install as
there may be too little space or there is an error in the program - I am
installing on Drive C: and there is unused space to the amount of 23GB. The
installation disk is the original from the purchase of the camera

As I at one time paid good money for that camera, in order to use it with Skype,
I remember that it worked for the first two days and then not again after that.
I had high hopes that an update would sometime cure that trouble and therefore
kept it on the computer.
Please help

Which model of LifeCam and which version of the drivers are you using?

Also, the name MSCamSvc is not a file name. It is a Windows XP
"service" name which actually points to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
LifeCam\MSCamS32.exe".

I have a LifeCam on another computer. Never used the installation
disk or downloaded anything for it. The CD makes a fine coaster.

I have never used an installation disk that comes with anything that
plugs into a USB port. Not a printer, not a camera. not a scanner,
not a phone, not a wireless adapter. They all come with CDs, but that
doesn't mean you have to install them.

Assume any installation disk that comes with your device is out of
date when you buy a product. Installing something for a simple USB
device may not always lead to good results and probably bad results.
There will be exceptions of course, but Windows should be able to
handle a simple camera with what is has built in.

Do not install anything unless you plug something in and Windows asks
for it and even then I would probably not do it.

But, since you already did, see if the service is running, stop it and
try again after deleting the file of complaint.

If it was me, I would remove all of the LifeCam software from Add/
Remove programs, remove any folder that has anything to do with
LifeCam, unplug your camera, reboot and then when Windows is running,
plug the camera in and let Windows deal with it. You can always
reinstall it, but you need to get this other problem fixed first.

My LifeCam works fine with Skype with zero LifeCam software installed.

You may/probably need some Skype updates from their WWW site which
have nothing to do with Windows or Lifecam. I had some problems at
first, but their latest version fixed me right up.

Using the default USB Video Class (UVC) may not always work.

I didn't say it would work, but installing the LifeCam software is
certainly contributing to the problem.

I have successfully connected a LifeCam VX=1000 and a QuickCam Pro
5000. Both work at the same time. However, you do need to have the
USB "control" module that is usually delivered as a "part" of the
motherboard chipset drivers.

Most webcam makers will only support their webcam when connect to a
PC's "main" USB ports. They will not help when using USB hubs.

Thanks all - to my amazement, I did better without the MS CD. I now have a
choice of logitech and MSLifeCam - actually it seems that the LifeCam is giving
a much better picture - thanks it will stop two of my sons to try to convince me
to get a MAC instead of the PC.

To avoid grizzlies, the Alaska Department of Fish & Game
advises hikers to wear noisy little bells on clothes and carry pepper spray,
also watch for signs of activity:
Black bear scat is smaller and contains berries; grizzly scat has little bells
in it and smells like pepper.

Remarkable.

This post was forged and the advice is bogus.

And I suffered the same trouble - the advice given is that I use the disk as a
coaster for which it is very good indeed. - just plug in the camera and for me
it has worked well on skype.
