hello

Hi all, not posted here b4 so big hello.

This drive was working fine, passed diagnostics ok but clogged
with spyware/virii/fragmented and the laptop bluescreened .

BUT

attach to one of those cheap 2.5 -> 3.5 circuit board
hd adaptors and it CEASED TO SPIN. I think it shorted
rather than being from connecting the pins the wrong way round (been
there too!!!)

anyone know what components are most likely to be fried (motor coils?)

by getting an identical drive, anyone reckon its possible to save data
on this hd by swapping over the controller board ? What number T driver
fits laptop drives?

What happens if you put it back in the laptop spin wise ?

Unlikely.

With that drive ?

The motor hardly ever dies like that. Its usually
something on the logic card when the drive doesnt spin.

Its possible, but doesnt work with two brand
new identical drives with some models.
What number T driver fits laptop drives?

They normally come it sets so it doesnt really matter.

no spin, and the laptop pxe boot comes up, eventually fails to boot.
With that drive ?

No, but when it didn't work I thought maybe that's what I'd done but I
tried another 2.5 drive on the adaptor, pin 1 near the 4 jumper pins, it
worked ok so I know power supply + ide connector are ok.

The warranty on this is probably up, stamped MAR-04. Seen a few at
auction though. Worth a try though eh?

My smallest one was too big!...
Thanks 4 the encouragement.

Dunno, it should have a 3 year warranty.

Sure, if the data on the drive is worth that to you.

I have seen one report of both drives being unusable with
that swap with brand new identical drives, but thats rare.

No problem.
