Guest account and the internet

R

Randy

Is it possible to allow the Guest account to use the
internet connection. I don't want to grant it some type of
power user setup because we have some people who think when
they visit that they need to use the internet, so before I
go on a power spree of just banning visitors from it, can I
make the Guest account connect to the internet? but still
keep it "limited"

Thanks

Randy;

Description of Guest account
[[The guest account is intended for use by someone who has no user account
on the computer. There is no password for the guest account, so the user can
log on quickly to check e-mail or browse the Internet. A user logged on to
the guest account:
Cannot install software or hardware, but can access applications that have
already been installed on the computer.
Cannot change the guest account type.
Can change the guest account picture.]]

It does, but I can not figure out how to allow the Guest to
use the internet to log on and check email, the dialer
(this is a dialer as my ISP uses the network and internet
connections setup, no software) but if you double click the
dialer, nothing happens, right click the dialer and all
options are grey, and recreating the dialer does not work,
I am still overlooking something how to allow the guest
account to use the dialer and still maintain mimimal
"power" with the system.

Thanks

Randy;

Try this:
Logon with the Administrator account, give the guest account administrative
access and logoff.

Logon with the guest account and run through the dialer program. Run it
through connecting, etc. then logoff. Now log back on as Administrator and
remove the administrative privileges from the guest account and make it back
to the default 'limited' access.

See www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, Line 32, Left Column, Keep RAS Connection (FUS) and click the EXE link. This small utility will adjust your system so that you can establish a dial up connection from an account with dial up privileges, then log out, or use Fast User Switching to switch to the Guest account. The dial up connection will remain active.
