Groups changing

[Confused...]

A bunch of my Distribution Groups have changed to
Security groups and not sure why. No one has made those
changes. Will AD automatically change those groups if
some conditions exist? For example, if there is a nested
security group within or these DG is used to assign
permissions to Public Folders?

If you use them to assign permissions in Exchange, Exchange will make them
security groups.

Why would it do this? I personally, like to have a
separation between Distribution and Security groups. Is
there a way to stop it?

If you are assigning permissions with them then the groups are being used for
security... And no you can't disable that, the permissions for Exchange 2k+ are
finally coming into line with standard Windows permissioning. They still have
some stupid stuff with MAPI within the folders in a mailbox but at least the
root level perms are getting better.
