Changing Group type

I am attempting to change all of our distribution lists
from mail enabled security groups, to distribution
groups. I did this last thursday. On friday one of them
was a security group again, I changed it to a distribution
group. Today, a different one is a security group.
Is it possible that the system is changing them back to
security groups for some reason? If not, how would I find
out who is changing the groups? The group was last
modified friday night (which would account for the change)
but I can't tell who made the change. Any help on this
matter would be greatly appreciated.
