Group Policies stopped reaching users

I use Ghost and sysprep to deploy student workstations in
a school. I also have policies which provide the
automatic windows updates and deny access to explorer.

I wanted to customize the desktop, so I followed the
directions for creating a user exactly the way I wanted
it. Then I copied the profile to the Default (as per the
MS instructions). After I ran sysprep and deployed the
new ghost image to the workstations, I realized that the
policies are NOT reaching new users.

I'm on a Novell network. Policies reside on a Windows
2000 server.

Longshot, but if you have lots of groups, this may or may not be your issue.
