Greyed out Animations

I am working with animations in powerpoint 2007 and have noticed that a
number of animations are grayed out (can't be selected). Why? How do I get
them back?

The ones that are grayed out for me are: Faded Swivel, Color Typewriter,
Unfold, Flip, Swish and Whip. Help!
 
Some animations can't be applied to some objects. What are you trying to
apply these animations to?

What if you just select a simple rectangle shape (Insert | Shape)? Are they
available then?
 
Try adding some text to the shape. If you don't want to see text a space
might work.
