Greek Letters or Symbols in Excel

O

OK

I cannot find the greek letter delta (in capital, looks like a triangle) in
the Insert-Symbol menu of excel. There is one that is there when you change
the font to symbol. But when u refer this cell in another cell, the
formatting is lost and the delta appears as D....

eg. I insert the symbol in cell A1 and then refer to it in cell B1 as a
formula (=A1). If I use any symbols from the non-symbol fonts, the formating
is retained in the new cell. I cannot also find a code for this character in
the ASCII codes (eg. Alt + 230) etc.

Can anyone help me out here please.

Thanks

I can't even find Insert Symbol on an excel menu. BUT if I go to the
windows character map, it has the symbol and when I insert it, it seems to
work fine even if referred to from another formula.

Insert|Symbol was added in xl2002 (IIRC).

I had to format the cell that contained the formula in xl2002. The font wasn't
"copied" over to the formula cell.

I found a couple triangles that could pass for Deltas in "Map Symbols"--but I'm
not sure what installed that font.

And it's under Symbol, too. (=char(68))

And you might be able to find a Greek font by searching Google.

There is a capital delta in the times new roman font. unicode (hex)

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to
think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone´s fault.
If it was Us, what did that make Me ? After all, I´m one of Us. I must be.
I´ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No-one ever thinks
of themselves as one of Them. We´re always one of Us. It´s Them that do
the bad things. <=> Terry Pratchett. Jingo.

I finally figured out the problem myself although suggestions from the group
were very useful in leading me to the solution of the problem.

In Office 2003, if you go to Insert/Symbol... you have a display with all
the characters. In that box, on the bottom right, there is a drop down list
where you have to choose "unicode(hex)". This brings out a dropdown list in
the upper right corner where you can choose the type of characters you want,
eg. Basic Greek, Misc. Dingbats, Box Drawings etc...

An the best this...... the formatting is retained in the cell where this
cell is referred to!!

This choice is also available in Office XP.

Hope this is useful for other people in the group.
