Grayed Button

My undo and redo buttons on the standard toolbar are grayed out. How do I
reactive them?

Betty,
The reason they are grayed out is because there isn't anything to be undone. If you type into a cell and hit enter the undo button will become active. And similarly, until you undo something there isn't anything to be redone.
