graphic driver malfunction

A few days ago, I opened my laptop to find that my monitor was going crazy.
Vertical red lines, font size has increased, just general craziness. A
windows error pop up tells me that I have a graphic driver display problem.
How do I fix this?

I use Windows XP with Toshiba laptop.

It would be helpful to know the exact wording of the message.

Otherwise, try this general troubleshooting tip:
Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager button > select
your Display Adapter and Uninstall it, then immediately reboot your
computer. Windows will install its own driver for your video card. You
can then visit the card manufacturer's web site and install a new driver.
