GPO to change DNS settings----Not Working

M

Mike Towan

I modified the Default Domain Policy to push out new DNS server IP's as well
as the domain suffix info (under Computer Configuration | Administrative
Templates | Network | DNS Client ).

I did this about 6 hours ago, but the policy doesn't seem to be working. I
did secedit /refreshpolicy machine_policy /enforce on one of the DC's and
did a GPUPDATE from an XP Pro workstation, still policy not applying.

Any suggestions? Do I need to create a policy separate from the Default
Domain Policy?

Mike,

Try and get any GPO setting to apply, even a simple one... say "Remove
Help". That will let you know if you have a GPO issue, permission issue,
etc. After finding that you can get other smaller GPOs to apply, then tackle
the DNS issue.

Also, some GPOs take a reboot and won't apply with the auto refresh or the
forcing of GPOs with secedit/gpupdate. So, give one a reboot and see if it
takes.
