Google problem - no website configured?

Hugs and kisses for everyone!

I found ALL the files that had <hosts> in them.
Renamed them Trouble 1,2,3, & 4
And, I am happy, no, ecstatic, to be able to say that Google is back!

There was a file called LMHOSTS in WINDOWS\I386 which was gibberish (to me)
when I opened it with Notepad, maybe that's the one that was causing the
problem.

Anyway, thanks a lot to everyone who responded, I am now quite a lot wiser
about my computer.
