Any thoughts on Google Chrome?
Is it really worth switching to it?
Is it still in Beta?Is it safer than IE?

I'm considering it, but think I should wait
until it matures.
What do you think?

I don't trust Google .. they want to own the Internet/information through
behaviour analysis, your behaviour. I use Firefox with Noscript and cookie
blocking. I never install the google toolbar. I use google for search. It's
a great search engine, but I use it through Scroogle most of the time. Maybe
I went mad, but I don't trust giant corporation that rule the world. :))

Chrome is "nice" but there is a few "cons" to it:

1) Installs to "C:\Documents and Settings\{user}...." instead of C:
\Program Files.

2) Might still be "tracking" you usage even when you select to not let
Chrome report this.

As for the BETA tag, it seem to only be with version 2 that is
"tagged" Beta. The official Chrome site will install version 1.

Does anybody agree with the below?

Ask yourself why you need it and if the "stuff" they install on your
computer to track is worth it to you.

It's a nice basic browser.

Worth is subjective and likely only you can determine that. There is nothing
stopping you from trying it.

Google products are notorious for there (mis)use of beta. They have products
that have been around for years that they still consider beta. Here is a
Slate article on it:

Your surfing safety has more to do with how you use and maintain your
computer software than the browser you choose.

No amount of 'protection' can stop you from yourself. Here is a cartoon that
illustrates the point:

I use it for some sites; it can be faster. In the end, I use IE, FireFox
and Chrome for different purposes.

I did not "switch", I picked up another tool that is sometimes more
appropriate.
