I'm running windows XP on my desk top and I've noticed that it's been running
slower lately. Some programs will start to freeze. I have a Pentium 4 2.66
Ghz , 1 gig ram and a radion 900. I dont think my specs will be the reason
why my computer is running slower or why my programs freezes, i run spy
sweeper and ad aware every week and uses McAfee. I really ran out of ideas.
Can you please help me.

well, here are a couple of sites, that i hope will help.

first of all, http://blackviper.com . i find that they have an excellent
tweaking guide there. (for those of you who watch G4-TechTV, they have
actually reccommended this site, from time to time.)

also, you might want to try installing Cleanup! v3.12, from

http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

this utility is little-known, but i've never seen a computer it's been on
that HASN'T gained a significant performance increase.

Hope this helps.

A disk cleanup and then a defrag may help.

Also get rid of unnecessary items in the startup. These could be
communications type apps such as iTunes, or Acrobat reader etc. All these
'background' task / processes chew up resources CPU and memory and could
cause additional pagefile activity.

First thing is to create a system restore point: just for security.

Use START > RUN
type in MSCONFIG.EXE
click on STARTUP and examine he list. Uncheck each one that you do not
want, do one and then restart PC: see if it helps or you NEED that process
and have to reinstate it.

Then do another and repeat the steps above.

Continue until all unnecessary items are cleared.

Another thing that slows down computers is software installed by "all in
one" printers and digital cameras. Kodak and HP are the worst. Have you
recently added a new printer or digital camera?
