Good HTML editor

O

Onno Tasler

Hallo!

I am looking for a good text-based HTML editor for Windows XP. It needs
to be quick and not to bloated. Required features are
syntax-highlighting, shortcuts (ie. CTRL-L for creating a link) and
entity support (so that I do not need to encode non-ASCII signs by hand)
Automatically inserting pictures (PNG, JPEG) by creating an IMG tag with
correct size is important, too.

I do *not* want a WYSWIG editor! Thus, Mozilla Composer is not what I am
looking for. I used HTML-Kit and Phase 5². Phase 5² does not support PNG
and HTML-Kit has a ton of features I do not need while missing those I
need.

Any ideas? English and German programs are welcome. (If there is nothing
else, I would also take a French, Spanish or Dutch program)

bye,

Onno

Try Phase 5²

It does not support PNG, but hey, we can't have everything.

All seriousness aside, try Stone's Webwriter.

Or any of these:

I will add my cents in with a recommed for Arachnophilia, but not the
recent Java version.

Arachnophilia 4.0

I have used it for years now and it still does the trick.

Light version (free) is excellent with lots of features. I bought the pro
version a few years ago and it's a very good editor whether
for HTML or programming languages. No ads or nags and I wouldn't call it
crippled with all the features it has.

Try http://www.htmlbeauty.com/

I've used it happily for several years.

Thanks, that is a good program. But I left it for Phase 5², so it is not
what I am looking for.

Have you looked at Stone's WebWriter 3
English and German programs are welcome. (If there is nothing

if you can read Danish as well, you can get the new version 4
<http://www.webwriter.dk/>, but then the new version is wysiwyg I
think - not what you wanted...

All the best,

I have also purchased the pro version. The main difference between
light and pro that I can tell is the color coding of the commands.

I agree. I am eagerly awaiting for the English translation of Stone's
Webwriter v. 4.0.

It's been popular enough to have been voted Pricelessware every year.

All the same, (and despite the many features, with its clip libraries and
so forth), I am amongst those who find being restricted to single-level
undo as extremely crippling.

Btw, I had the annoying experience of buying Notetab Standard Edition
/before/ realizing that even that version did not have multiple undo.
