Free Lindows, now known as "Linspire"

http://www.linspire.com/btorder

Use "Lindows" for the order coupon, and it's *supposed to be free.

Eh...I'm not a regular Linux user, so you on your own. It's supposed to be
stable and useful, and run many Windows programs as well.

Bitwise Chat (and file sharing) 1.0.1 beta is out, and is rock stable. It's
gaining in popularity, so hurry to get your preferred screen name before
it's gone. It's encrypted and thus much more secure than the other chat
clients. Check out the BitWise license agreement vs AOL, for example. AOL's
license agreement states they reserve the right to track your browsing
habits. Holy moly!

BVD notepad. Very nice, small Notepad replacement. IMHO not as good as my
personal favorite (MetaPad), but nearly so. I like the way the search bar
and the replace bar are separate, and dock neatly when turned on. The search
bar stays on permanently if you wish, which makes it a nice scrap saver. I
also really like the one keystroke to quit. Press ESC, and you're out of
there, just like MetaPad.

AceMoney Lite, a very nice clone of earlier versions of MS Money. Very nice
and pretty well featured.

One thing very nice in BDV is that it is standalone, no-registry. For
settings, it uses a local file in its own directory.

This is a new release. The one I have is v1.4, and this shows they've
now t put out v2.0. Description of the older one is that it is a simple
and straightforward notepad replacement. It is SDI (one document per
running instance). This second aspect probably hasn't changed, but as
to features, looks that there are some new things going on.

Another thing I see mentioned is that it will view non-text files; the
page mentions image files. I'll have to check that out, along with the
enhanced dockable search bar.

So I jump through all the hoops, and burn yet another throw away
hotmail account in an attempt to get a free copy of Lindows/Linspire.

I tried the OPs suggestion - order a copy of Linspire, use the coupon
ID of Lindows, and it gave me the iso for free.

Haven't tried it yet, but it seemed pretty clear to me that it was
free to those who used this Lindows "coupon". Now where the OP got
this info from I do not know - it may be that (s)he should not be
broadcasting this info via usenet - but it seemed to work for me,
trying more out of interest than need.

cheers

DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux.

"Get Linspire 4.5 for Free
As part of the Lindows-to-Linspire name change promotion, a new ISO
image of Linspire 4.5 has been made available for free download: "For
the next few days, we have a special offer where you can receive a copy
of Linspire, hot-off-the-presses for free. That's right zero dollars.
But there's a catch - actually two. First, you must use a special coupon
code. Simply click on $49.95 Linspire 4.5 OS from the order page. Then
click on the 'Apply Coupon' button and enter the coupon code. Second,
the download will only be available from our BitTorrent P2P system so
our servers don't melt." Find out more in the latest Michael's Minutes.
The coupon code is not hard to guess; if you want it, head for the
Linspire shop to get the first ever release of Linspire Linux - for free!"

I got the download link as well. On a further search of the site, I
found this http://tinyurl.com/267ag

I have assumed, and perhaps wrongly, that this will be a 15 day trial.
It also is kind of sh*tty that you are forced to take the email from
them as well.

I went through the hoops with the coupon then waited at a countdown
window. When the countdown completed, the ISO downloaded normally from
their ftp server. BitTorrent was not required.

Haven't tried it yet but the ISO looks good/complete.

was time to put the World to rights with this little gem:
Call my lawyers! The word "inspire" is mine, all mine, and they are
