Good, Bad, or Ugly? Windows 2000 upgrade schema master, etc...

There are 2 Windows 2000 domain controllers and 1 Windows
2003 database server.

There is a method of preparing a Windows 2000 domain
server for upgrading to 2003. It involves upgrading the
schema master using 'adprep /forestprep'
and 'adprep/domainprep' included in the Windows 2003 CD.

Right now there are no plans to purchase Windows 2003 for
the 2 Windows 2000 domain controllers.

Is there any advantage to preparing Windows 2000 domain
controllers for 2003 without upgrading the underlying
files? ie: Integration with the Windows 2003 database
server, added funtionality, etc...
