I Had XP Home On My System With a Disc and Product Key, I left my computer in
for repair but when I got it back XP Professional was installed and now I
want to go back to Home Xp as the Professional version is not giving me any
updates as the the new version is not being verified by Microsoft for
updates. Am I crazy or should I leave Professional on.

It seems like the tech installed pirated Windows XP Pro, see if this
applies:

If so they did you no favour and instead created a lot of work since among
other things, you will have problems with updates.
There is no downgrade path to Windows XP Home so a Clean Installation is
necessary.
You are better of with your legitimate Windows XP Home than with a pirated
Windows XP Pro.
Also, performance and stability are identical with Home and Pro. If Home
meets all your needs, there is no benefit to Pro for you.

Get your money back and NEVER take your computer to that tech again.
Instead find a reputable repair shop.

windows explorer
tools
manage add ons

then disable the check for "windows genuine advantage"

Tak it back to the shop and have them copy off your data, and then
reinstall the Operating system that you are licensed for.

I wouldn't subject a system where a Illegal OS was installed to that
same outfit for remedy. Just inform them of the illegality of what was
done, demand a refund. Take them to small claims court if necessary
to recover any expenses for having the machine put back to it's right
OS configuration.

What you should do is take the computer back to that alleged repair
shop and insist that they make it right, at no additional cost to you.
If they refuse, consult you local law enforcement agencies' consumer
protection departments; it sounds like they've installed pirated
software on your computer.

The only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home is to format the
drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade path or
technique. Had you purchased a copy of WinXP Pro, you'd have been able
to perform a repair installation, preserving your applications and settings.

Simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll be
offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
