Go back to Windows XP Home

Hello all,

I had installed an Upgrade version of Win XP Professional on a computer
forgetting that I only had one license on it. How can I roll back to Windows
XP Home Edition (It was factory installed) before the 2 day evaluation
period runs out and I can't use Windows at all.

Thank you,
Bernie

Restore your system to its "factory installed" state using the restore
medium provided by the PC's manufacturer.
If you don't know how to do that, refer to the Owner's manual for your PC,
or contact the manufacturer's Technical Support Desk.

Upgrade verisons should have set a "Unistall" option in Add/Remove
Programs. If not, you need to re-format / re-instal / recover CD your
previous XP home.

That applies sometimes when upgrading from windows 9x to Windows XP.
But not when upgrading from Windows XP Home to Windows XP
Professional.
The OP needs to backup all essential data and perform a Clean Install
following the computer manufacturers directions.

I'm afraid that the only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home
is to format the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade
path or technique.

After backing up any data you wish to transfer to the new OS
installation, simply boot from the WinXP Home installation CD. You'll
be offered the opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as
part of the installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order
of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

Then the backed up data can be restored and applications re-installed.

(Or, if this seems like too much trouble, you could purchase another
license for the WinXP Pro Upgrade.)
