Gmail send error when using Outlook 2002

I have a laptop with Windows Vista and I added Microsoft XP Professional to
it...I set-up the Outlook for my Gmail account...when finished I clicked
check account settings...everything went through fine until I got a error
message saying "Unable to send test message...Please verify email address
field." The email address is correct...Can someone please, please help me
with this?
 
Outlook XP is not fully compatible with vista.
Are you setting up gmail as pop or imap?
