Gmail not working with outlook

I have tried everything, but my g-mail account will not configure with
regular outloo, I have been having to use outlook express and it sucks!!!
Please help if you can, I have followed Outlook and Gmail's directions to the
T but I keep getting this error message

If you have account settings that work in OE, try importing the settings
into Outlook - 'File|Import and Export|Import Internet Mail Account
Settings'. You may want to create a new profile; if not, be sure to remove
the old Gmail settings you attempted to create manually.
