I have Word 2003
Is "glossary" an old field code that is the same as "AUTOTEXT"?
I have some documents with these fields, and they apppear to act like
AUTOTEXT fields.
I don't know what version of Word was used to create these documents
originally.
They were created no later than 1993.

Thanks

Yes, the Glossary was the predecessor of AutoText; I'm guessing that your
document was created in Word 2.0 or earlier (even a DOS version), as
AutoText was introduced in Word 6.0 (which, despite the version jump, was
the version that followed 2.0). One major difference was that Glossary
entries were evidently inserted as fields (instead of plain text).

Thanks. You are an ocean of knowledge.
No telling what version, these files are so old. I'm having problems just
printing ones that look good on the screen, and sometimes they don't even
display right. They're going to be updating them soon, and I'm glad I'll be
moving to another department before then!
There is an AUTOTEXT field in Word 2003. It allows the user to get updated
autotext. It's in category "Links and references"
I didn't know about it until I was trying to find out what these "glossary"
fields were, and found that they contained the names of autotext entries,
after determining the file and template had no macros or document variables.
Autotext fields could be really helpful to some people.
