Global Print Setting

PowerPoint 2003 SP1. I am going to Tools, Options, Print tab, and selecting
Use the Following Print Settings, selecing Handouts and Pure Black and White.
When I save that, and then select print, Outlook does the handouts, but
ignores the black and white, and I have to reset it with File Print every
time. Is this a glitch, or am I missing something?

If you have a colour printer set to default to colour print I dont think that
you can get round this. The printer will reset the default to colour. You
could set the printer to default to black and white.

I have a black and white printer, so printing "in color" wastes a lot of
toner. When I manually change the setting to "Pure Black and White" I get my
text and pictures with a white background - just the way I want it. But when
I don't, I get a very black attempt to print my color background, and white
text.

I want the color background for the presentation. But when I print
handouts, I want PowerPoint to recognize the print setting I put under Tools,
Options, Print.

have only colour so cant test this out if you view the master in greyscale
and change the black and white settings to black - white fill does that help

This has nothing to do with the printer. The printer follows instructions
and prints exactly what it is told to do.

When I set the print settings in Tools, Options, Print, then I go to File,
Print, I expect the File, Print window to have adopted the global settings I
put in Tools Options, Print. It does adopt the "handouts" setting, but
reverts to selecting Color rather than Pure Black And White every time I
re-open the file. Of course, if I set it correctly for one print job, every
other print job will come up the same way until I close the file. But when I
close the file and re-open it, I have to re-set the Print window under File,
Print from Color to Pure Black and White, even though I have Pure Black and
White under Tools, Options, Print.

Ok

How about open a file set up the print defaults and then save as a template
(.pot) file named "blank" This should set the defaults when a new file is
opened.

No dice. I created the template, saved it, shut down PowerPoint, opened it
back, and started a brand new presentation from scratch. The new document
had "Handouts (2 slides per page)" and "Pure Black and White" in Tools,
Options, Print. But when I went to File, Print, it kept the "Print What" as
Handouts, 2 slides per page, but reverted to Color on the Color/grayscale
option.

Sorry then that was my best shot! I know that the printer can overide the
settings because if I set tools>options to black and white and the printer is
set to colour print The default in print is "colour" BUT if the printer is
set to black ink only the default changes to greyscale. But since your
printer is B&W it shouldnt be that unless theres a greyscale / B&W setting.
