Global Catalogs

Good Morning I have an AD with two DCs. Is there a
problem if both of these are set up as Global Catalogs?
Will this help a logon and Password change issue - "No
domain controller is available to authenticate your
logon"? Just looking for a "Quick Fix"!!

Thanks in advance!

Lance to answer your first question. It is not Microsoft best practice to
assign the GC role to a server that is also assigned the infrastructure
master role if not all the servers in the forest is assigned the GC role. In
your case it will be fine as long as any subsequent DC is also assigned the
GC role.

Next question. The GC plays a significant role from the Universal Group
point of view. (and other requirements, e.g. exchange 2000/3) If your
clients are Windows 2000 or XP then they would require a GC. (The
requirement could be disabled but would pose a security risk)

Lastly, not finding an DC for authentication/authorization could be due to
DNS (In the case of DS enabled clients), WINS, missing SYSVOL and many
other.

The second answer is not as simple as yes or no GC causes your problems.
