I have three Domain Controllers (DC1, DC2, DC3). I want to demote DC1. But when I shut it down, users can no longer logon to the network. How I can I tell if DC1 is a GCS?

AD sites and services. On DC1 right click on the NTDS for that server and the GC box will be checked if it is a GC. to make it any server a GC right click on its NTDS and Check the GC box

Having 2 GC is a good idea on any ad, in case one of them fail.
