Gif transparency

Why is it that sometimes, when I import a gif into a page
and then try to use the transparency button on the picture
toolbar, FrontPage will only allow me to set the
transparency on certain areas - but not the background,
which is the one area where I actually want it?

Could be:
1. The program that was used to create the gif.
2. The image creator chose to make it so it couldn't be modified.
3. The color depth is such that it doesn't lend itself to being made
transparent.

Download a copy of the free IrfanView and you can modify color depth,
and resize resample the image.

It could be that there is already an alpha channel set for the background of
the pic, in that case since there is only one alpha channel (that's the
transparency color) per image FP won't let you select it again. Usually
though, it's better to find another program to do image editing operations,
even as simple as setting the transparency, because FP doesn't do as good an
optimization job as even some of the freeware utilities offer.

Hope this helps,
