Transparent gif in table

I am using FP2003. I have a table with the background colour set and in one
cell of the table I have a gif with a transparent colour. The background
colour is not showing through the transparent part of the gif. The
transparent check box in image properties is checked appropriately. Am I
misiing something?

How did you create the transparent part of the image?
