It is a measure of frequency in cycles per second. 1 GHz = 1 billion cycles
per second.

ghz is short for gigaherts. I assume that your 2.4ghz is reference to your
processor speed. This is usually expressed as Intel pentium 2.4ghz or AMD
athlon (or some other derivative) 2.4ghz
