Ghosted corners marking the margins and they won't go away

For some reason these ghosted corners (as in, gray half boxes pointing
inward) are marking the margins in every document. I've never seen them
before, I never turned them on, and I've looked everywhere for a way to turn
them off. Has anyone ever experienced this problem?

(Word 2003)

See “Margin marks or crop marks appear on each corner of the page when you
open a document in Word 2002 or in Word 2003†at

aha I pasted Japanese characters into a document so that was what caused it.
is there away to take it off without disabling Asian languages?

No, but note that you can use Japanese characters without enabling Asian
languages (at least I have done so).
