Hello everyone

Well, I believe I have a VIRUS or something going on here. I can be
online and the cursor moves by itself. Also I can't run DEFRAG say's
something like
can't find engine ( I tried the fixes found on this forum, NG) At
SAFE MODE,
I can defrag but it takes something in the order of 2 hours to
complete!

I have McCafee, Zone Alarm, and I also run AVG. NOTHING shows up
Anything else I can look at??
Till now this combo has been pretty effective. I run with AOL, and
recently downloaded Their Anti-Virus stuff, But I must say it behaved a
little strange.
I am not sure it is suspect, I just wondered Why they would have
their own Anti-Virus stuff, when they offer McCafee free? Anyway,
Any ideas would be welcome. I am fairly good w/ computers, but if you
can state it plain it would help.

Thanks everyone
BOB R
PS thanks to PC banter

Nothing happens when clicking on Defragment or Analyze.

With XP SP2 the DCOM Server Process Launcher service needs to be running for
Defrag to work.

Open Services...
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK |
Scroll down to and double click DCOM Server Process Launcher |
Set Startup type to Automatic | Click OK | Close Services |
Reboot

From a tip from Ramesh - Microsoft MVP

Note the following things will fail if this service is not running:

The builtin defrag will fail to work, and if running defrag from the command
line one gets this error:

Windows cannot connect to the Disk Defragmenter engine

And from...

Hope this helps. Let us know.

I tried the method above (run svcs msc etc) I got to services,
found DCOM
and it was on automatic. The section about the worm. Would that
apply?
