Ghost 9.0 Can't reconcile changes...

Hello Forum,
First, I realize this is more of a Norton Ghost question rather than an XP
question, but I am at a loss.
Any good forums out there for Norton Ghost 9.0?
Anyway, here's the question...

1) System crashed. Couldn't (yet) retrieve backup via my Windows Automated
System Recovery, so I reinstalled windows. Bought and installed Ghost so I
wouldn't have ASR headaches next time. I installed ghost with my USB HDD
attached. No problems. One time when the USB HDD was unattached got an
error from ghost. Unable to successfully reconcile changes since last
session. Unable to enumerate the current drives on this system. Reconnected
and all seemed find. made backup images.

2) Actually got ASR to work. So my computer is restored to it's pre-crash
pre-ghost state. Now I own Ghost - may as well use it. I install it (with
USB HDD attached). Immediately get the error message listed above. (What
last session? I just installed it...) Only way to make the error go away is
disconnect external USB HDD. Pointless, since that's where I keep my back
ups. Deleted previous Ghost images from USB HDD, but no successs there.

Can anyone help, or does anyone know where I might find help? (Symantec
website useless.)

Thanks!

"Phrank" - 30/10/2002 00:15 had a similar problem, and I had a rummage with
Google for him and found:-

"USB/FireWire drive (local):-
Must have supported storage device drivers to restore from the Symantec
Recovery Disk CD; could require additional media along with the Symantec
Recovery Disk CD

....so it's at least a possibility that your USB hd hardware has to be
"supported" by Norton to work properly.

Tools/Options then backup folder. It must point to the external drive. If
the drive is off, or plugged into a different port (which gives it a
different letter designation) you will always get this error message.

The trick is to always plug the drive into the same physical port. Also, if
you install another internal hard drive after installing Ghost, you will
effectively bump back the letter designation for the external drive. Oops!
Another error message. You now have to change the drive path so Ghost will
see it again.

Note that some other plugged in devices may cause the same condition.

Turns out my husband added a Linux partition to the external USB HDD - I
think this is creating the error!
I told him he has to get his OWN USB HDD!

That's always a good idea, but if he just wanted to be able to share
data between Windows and Linux, he wouldn't want to format the external
drive in any of the Linux file systems anyway. Tell him to format the
external drive FAT32 since Linux can read and write to FAT32 with no
problem.

Yeah, he's got both FAT32 and EXT2 partitions on the thing. Don't know (or
much care!) what he's does with them., or know his reasoning behind it all.
In fact, last year I broke down and bought my own computer since he's always
doing weird stuff on what used to be our only machine. Fun and games for him,
but I never could get any work done on the thing!
