Getting windows to burn dvd data discs

I have recently purchased an hp dvd writer 300i for my desktop pc. All is working well accept one thing. I cant find any way to get XP to reconize that my dvd burner is a dvd burner. I have replaced my orginal drive, which was a cd/rw dvd rom drive, with this dvd burner. I didnt like the way the software that came with the dvd burner burns data discs, so I used the add hardware wizard in xp for the software. The problem is that the hardware wizard software doesnt support dvd burners. I can burn cd data discs fine, but not dvd discs. In other words, it acts just like my original cd/rw drive. Is there any way I can get XP software to burn dvd data discs, just like it burns cds? I checked windows update, and I couldnt find anything. If anything was there, I didnt know what to download. I would be very thankful for any help.

Perhaps this will help. Kelly's link, below. Click on "D" and scroll

XP has no native (built in) DVD burning capability whether you wish to burn
a traditional DVD (movie) or a data DVD... You MUST use third party software
(generally Nero or Roxio) for this.

Cari,

Would that 3rd party software include DVD X Copy?

Thanks,
