Hello! Will try to be concise. Am banging head against wall trying to get my
Win XP laptop to talk to my Win95 box using the '95 as a DUN server. I have
installed DUN1.3 on the Win95 box and have got all the protocols and things
installed, and all the protocols I can find installed on the XP one.
(PS I have successfully got them talking over an ethernet crossover cable.
But the XP box is a laptop - I want it to be able to dial the good ol' win95
box remotely over the telephone. )
The win95 dial up server answers the phone OK, but never seems to accept the
username and password from the XP box, even though I've used the same
password on both machines. To be honest, I don't know what username to use
at all. The DUN server only has a box for 'password'. What should I put as
the username? I have tried leaving it blank and using 'default' and my
normal XP username. On the Win95 machine I only have one account set up for
logging in to windows, and there is no password on it.
I've noticed a few of the web tutorials on DUN server win95 recommend using
NetBEUI. But, I can't find a protocol on the Win XP box by this name. I did
try to use something called NetBIOS but this didn't seem to work.
I have tried everything I can think of including all the KB articles I could
find.
Hope you can help and wishing you a good Christmas.
