Getting squares instead letters in word file from other pc

When i copy a word file from Cd
I get it in squares instead of letters
How can I change this problem?

It sounds as if the file structures may have been damaged.
This could have happened when burning to CD, or the CD
itself has been damaged, or the read process from the CD
was faulty.
