Getting outlook to keep messages on the server--a problem

I check the box for Outlook to leave my email messages on the server but it
keeps reverting back to Not leaving them on the server (i.e. the box becomes
mysteriously unchecked). How do I get Outlook to keep this setting???

What mail server do you use? What type of email account is it?
