getting on win xp

I just bought a computer from a friend and it has windows
xp pro on it, he gave me the password but it does not
work. I do not have a recovery disk and I have tried
leaving the password blank, cntl/alt/ delete twice really
fast and typing administrator, I have tried the safe
mode which brings up the administrator account but the
mouse and key board does not respond. I feel my computor
is a hostage to windows xp now, as I can not even install
a different windows program, I can not do anything with
it, it just sets on the welcome screen. Certainly there
is a way around xp so that my computer is usable. thank
you

If you did not receive a Windows XP CD, or a Recovery CD, or any means
to restore Windows XP to its original factory state, then an improper Windows XP
license transfer has occurred. If this is the case, then go out and purchase a
"full version" of Windows XP and perform a "clean install".

Because of the security features built into Windows XP, it is virtually impossible
