I am getting a new system with Windows Vista Home 64 bit. My old system is
Windows XP Home. How do I get programs and data to my new system from the
old system?

You don't get programs to it. You install programs from installation media
(CD, DVD, installable executable). As for the data, you can try Windows

Or just copy the data to USB flash drive or burn to CD/DVD.

Or if you have, or plan to get, an external USB drive, they're pretty
cheap these days, just move it from machine to machine. Works wonders
and fantastic for doing backups. Up to 500 Gigs are pretty reasonable
priced nowadays. I have a 500 on this machine and a 360 Gig to service
my laptop and the DELL dual-xeon ex-server.
