Getting File Open Dialog to open in Detail view

I have a lot of folders with many directories in them, and when I do a
file open dialog I have to do a lot of scrolling to the right to locate
folders.

Is there some kind of registry setting which will open the File Open
dialog in detailed view?

Set one folder as you want it then go

Tools
Folder Options
View
Apply to all folders

I am referring to te File | Open dialog,the dialog that comes up when
you are opening a file, not the Windows Explorer itself

That doesn't always work for ALL Open dialog windows.

Try looking at a freeware application: FileEx (http://www.cottonwoodsw.com)
Has many options that you'll love.
