The firewall itself isn't the issue if you can access the settings. At
home, I just tell my firewall to allow ePrompter (or any other program
I want) to connect to the internet. Nothing special, really.
On your work computer, you really need to know how your IT people
block the traffic. If your employer's policies allow you to check
email on personal accounts from your work computer, the easiest
approach should be a matter of asking someone on the IT staff how you
need to set up a personal email client.
If it's set up the usual way - with a Cisco or equivalent firewall -
your email server is probably in a DMZ, and the computers behind the
firewall have access to the servers in the DMZs. (Usually the email
server only allows Outlook to connect to it.) But the computers
behind the router have NO access to the outside world, as far as POP
or SMTP are concerned, so you can't run an email client from your
computer.
A possible work-around is to install a VNC server on your home
computer and a VNC client on your office computer, and run your home
copy of EPrompter using your office computer to connect to your home
computer.
