Getting an error msg. on com3 serial port...

I have installed a radio scanner and software to operate it via my 9 pin
serial connection. I set the baud rate on the device and it should be
communicating with the computer. In device mgr. on com port 3 I get the
following msg.:

"Windows cannot determine the settings for this device. Consult the
documentation that came with this device and use the Resource tab to set the
configuration. (Code 34)"

Can anyone pls. assist me on this? I've pulled out all my hair!

check under device manager and make sure com3 is installed.
it could also be a driver problem, you may need a newer driver if one is
available

Jaymon,It's a Uniden BR-330T using a 9-pin serial cable on the serial port.
I thought the port was com-3. I set the device's baud rate and did an add
hardware scan to no avail. Somehow, I've managed to delete the com port
settings altogether now, and my system restore is unsuccessful???

God help me!!!

Hey Smoke Eater,

Are you sure it's not a USB cable you're trying to eyeball..?

http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/widerxvr/0330.html
Is this it..? says it comes with a PC cable, kinda vague.. Also says USB
cable is extra, might want to get one..? Also says the specs subject to
change without notice..
http://www.uniden.com/index/downloads.cfm?product=BR330T
The above link looks like your updated USB 1 software and firmware site..
Where did you buy it, might ask them for a USB cable..? I can't find any
reference to a 9 pin serial cable application..
You might want to look for yourself to be sure, though..

Dude, this is a 9-pin serial connector with 2 screw-in holders to tighten it
down to the port on the back of the tower. In my device manager, the com
ports are gone. This morning, one had a yellow exclamation point on it with
an error message. I was goofing around and deleted my com ports altogether.
Now all I have is the LPT-1 printer symbol in there?
I am lost here!
And, now my system restore will not complete. No matter what date I use.
I've tried that troubleshooter, also. I have plenty of memory, and I just
don't know what else to do...

Did you try scanning for hardware changes in device manager, action tab,
above the tool bar in computer management or just right click Ports (COM &
LPT) in device manager, scan for hardware changes, any change..? Or, after a
reboot, let windows find the hardware again, any change in device manager..?
Cheers

Most peripherals are now USB. Therfore most PC's come with the
Com and LPT ports disabled in the BIOS.
