getting a new laptop... turion or core-duo?

hello,
i'm looking into a new laptop for the next school year this fall. i can't
decide between the amd turion or the intel core-duo. i know we dont use
64bit software NOW, but we will. and the core-duo is NOT 64bit, just 2 32bit
cores (as much as people like to think they're 64bit). considering the
future in the next 4 years, what would be better to go with? also, any
recomendations on brands and models of laptops that utilize at elast 128mb
DEDICATED ram for the graphics card? I'm really considering the HP dv5000
series. I don't want anything bigger than a 15.4" screen.

1) 64-bit: still a-ways off, I wouldn't worry about that just now.

2) core-duo _WILL_ make a big difference - probably the best thing to
happen to laptops in years.

3) prices are falling, hold off as long as you can (fall is a long way off
still).

4) HP laptops are pretty good, and a good value. but heavy...
COMPAQ sucks tho - always has, always will! [I know, HP==COMPAQ, but
old maxims die hard! ]

Thanks,
I think I will go wiht the core-duo. from everything I've gathered, it
seems to be the best so far. i can get an hp dv5000 with the t2500 (2.0ghz)
core-duo, 2 gb ram, 100gb hdd, light scribe dvd-rw drive, 128mb gefore go
7400 dedicated, 15.4" bright view widescreen, built in 802.11 g/b w/
bluetooth for around $1700. not bad at all. i'm still gonna wait as long as
i can though. like you said, prices will fall!

I don't know what will happen after four years, but if I have to purchase
today I will go for Intel core duo.
