gettin new vid card

S

Steve Schaub

I'm switchin from a ATI 9600XT 128 to a ATI X800XL 256. The question I have
is I'm sure there is some settings in the bios I can change to help the new
card run to it's potential, but which ones?

Another is I recently upgraded from 512 ram on my puter up to 1 @1/2 gig of
ram. Again any changes to be made in bios?

Specs Asus P4C800 Deluxe mobo
1 1/2 gig Ram
ATI 9600XT (soon ATI X800XL) AGP
Audigy 2LS soundcard
Thanks for any advice, I'm really pumped about gettin this new card.

The really important thing is not in your BIOS, Steve, but to make
sure you uninstall all your ATI software and drivers and then run the
ATI - Software Uninstall Utility before switching cards. Then
reinstall your drivers and software.

However, with the increased RAM on your motherboard, you might want to
increase the size of your AGP aperture in BIOS. Also, if you had Fast
writes enabled for your 9600XT, it would be best to disable them for
your X800XL, unless you specifically want them enabled. But,
generally speaking, probably there aren't any BIOS changes you really
need to make.

From what to what? Do you know what increasing an aperture size
to over half the size of your physical memory does to your machine?

Also, if you had Fast

Read his post. He's got 1 1/2 Gigs in that machine now. Since the
biggest aperture most mobos will allow is 512 Megs...
Also, if you had Fast
