Get out of side-by-side mode!

J

jren57

After installing SP2 on my machine, everything went smoothly except IE6 is
now in "side-by-side mode"

Now when launching IE shortcuts, I get an error saying "cannot find "URL" ",
or clicking on a link in OE a dialog box says "This is being run in
Compatibility Mode and not all features are available" and a blank IE window
appears

Her some more information about it but its not much help:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;197311

Some more information in the about box:-

About Internet Explorer:

Version: Side-by-Side Mode
Cipher Strength: 128-bit
Product ID: 55277-OEM-0011903-00101
Update Versions:; SP2;

I have Mozilla Firefox 0.9.3 installed but IE is set as the default browser

Is there any way to get out of "side-by-side mode" and back to normal mode
without having to uninstall Firefox.

Thanks
Jon

Hi Jon,

Type these commands from Start/Run box:

REGSVR32 /i SHDOCVW
REGSVR32 /i URLMON

Then open Internet Options, Programs tab. Choose Reset Web Settings. Restart
Windows.

If that does not work, open Regedit and export these keys and post the
contents here.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.URL
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InternetShortcut

The first part didn't work, so here are the exported .reg files

Thanks

Jon,

Modify this line
"C:\\PROGRA~1\\INTERN~1\\INTERN~1.EXE"
to
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

The 8.3 naming is probably causing this. Once updated the value, Reset Web
Settings again.
