Okay.. My computer messed up and I had to format my HD..
I couldnt find my 98 SE disc, so I used my dad's Windows
2k disc.. And it had problems and my friend gave me
Windows XP.. I cant stand 2k, I cant stand XP.. i just
want 98 back. I've looked and look, tried everything..
How can I get into DOS mode to format my C Drive? I've
tried the guide to un installing Windows XP and all, and
it wasnt helpfull. Having both 2k and XP on my computer,
I have to choose whjat OS I want to load, so it prevents
me from going into Safe mode. Boot disc wont let me
format. I got so upset I even tried to install Linux, but
it didnt work either..

Please, How can I Completly exit out of Windows and be
squarly in DOS mode? If not that, how can I format my CD
drive? Please help..

Do you know what brand of hard drive you have? If you
do, you should probably be able to go to that
manufacturer's website and download a program that will
format the hard drive for you. You will have to put the
file onto floppy disk. Restart your system with the
floppy disk in. It should boot into the software to
format the hard drive. After doing this, you should be
able to restart the system and insert the CD for Windows
98 SE. It should boot into the disk automatically... if
it doesn't, go to your system's BIOS and see if there is
any possible way that you can change the boot order of
your devices to have your CD ROM drive boot up first. If
you don't know how to get into your BIOS, contact your
computer's manufacturer or your motherboard's
manufacturer.

we seem to have this alot, i don't see why people want to go back to 98 from
XP, its a nice fast OS, anyway, here goes (again)

if you have / can get hold of a win98 CD, stick it in the drive (floppy
drive if you wish) boot from this into "Command Prompt Only" or "Start
Computer without CD Rom Support" then again, as win2k & XP use NTFS file
system, you will need to run FDISK, once in there remove the non ms-dos
partitions, create a primary MS Dos partition, reboot machine (or Kick it
accross the room).

this time start WITH CD rom support, goto the cd (what ever drive it creates
it as (commonly D or E depending on weather it makes a "RAMDISK" (virtual
drive),

Goto \win98 on the cd and type "Format C:"

then restart computer and run the windows 98 setup from CD.

If you can't get hold of a windows 98 CD:

DON'T BOTHER, you can't install it without one ;)

If you're talking about completely wiping your existing drive
of all data and reinistalling a new version of WIndows,
use the windows 98 boot floppy and use fdisk to delete the
existing partitions. If you don't have it, download it from
bootdisk.com.
Once the partitions are deleted, the disk is empty. Install
the Operating system of your choice.

on windows xp you can make a dos boot disk do a search in
help and support.

Greetings --

There is no way to reboot a WinXP PC into Real Mode DOS unless
you've set up a dual-boot system. The WinNT family of 32-bit
graphical operating systems, of which WinXP is the latest generation,
has never used or included MS-DOS. The closest they have is the
Command Prompt window.

WinXP, like its predecessors WinNT & Win2K, is a pure 32-bit GUI
OS, and does not include or "ride upon" any version of DOS, as did
Win3.x & Win9x/Me. WinXP does include a command-line emulator for
those times when GUI applets are unnecessary/redundant, but it cannot
be started in "DOS mode."
