Tried to install scanner, turned out to be win95 software and problens
since then.
After removing as much as possible of the scanner files I had a system
that:
1) hung for 2 - 3 min on logging on to account(4 accounts on welcome
screen) while loading system tray.
2) hung for 3- 4 mins whenever I opened mycomputer folder, searching
for icons.
I have used msconfig services tab to narrow down problems to "task
scheduler" & "windows image acquisition"(WIA).
I have disabled these 2 items which as stopped the system hanging in
both situations listed above & system seems to run just great, playing
games etc.
But when I switch on the machine for the first time I get black screen
message that windows was not shut down correctly & giving startup
options, I start normal & everything runs ok but in msconfig I am
running a selective startup with the 2 services mentioned above
disabled & Use modified boot.ini on the general tab.
Can anyone help me get the system back to normal please ?
I have searched web for info but unfortunately this is an OEM windows
XP home edition & many fixes don't seem to include OEM disks
