I've just returned home from holiday and a strange
folder "seems" to
have appeared in my C drive during my absence - at least,
I don't recall
seeing it there before.
The folder name is <18ead462c131d069d8> and it contains
sub-folders
<common>; <sp1>; <sp2>.
These sub-folders appear to contain Microsoft stuff, but
it's all a bit
of a mystery, so I don't want to start opening things
that I'm not sure
of.
Any advice will be appreciated.

.
Yes it is genuine, I have one from a failed sp1 install.

If you have automatic updates turned on it is possible that in your
absence there were new updates detected and installed. Also it is
possible that these folders have been there for a while but have a
"hidden" attribute. You can choose to view these hidden files and
folders and might have done so without realizing what you were doing.
Hope this helps some.
