Generic USB devices problem

Hi,

I have problems with some "driverless" generic USB devices not being
installed properly on my laptop computer running Windows XP SP1. (e.g.
4-port USB hub, USB to 2x PS/2 adapter)

I've found that the file usbccgp.sys was not in the
\windows\system32\drivers\ folder and also there were no "usbccgp.sys"
entries in the Registry.
So I tried to install "WindowsXP-KB822603-x86-ENU.exe" again, but it didn't
help.
Then I copied usbccgp.sys to the \windows\system32\drivers\ folder manually
and added the corresponding Registry entry which I copied from another
computer running Windows XP SP1.

Now usbccgp.sys gets loaded by Windows XP, but it still doesn't install my
devices as "generic devices" and asks me to supply the proper drivers
instead. (which I don't have, since there are none)

Is there any way to fix this problem without re-installing Windows XP?

(re-installing Windows is not an option for me, because this is my company's
laptop and I don't have the "things" needed to do a re-install)

I've tried to point the Hardware Install Wizard to any location I could
think of (including the Windows XP CD), but it refuses to "find" any drivers
for the devices.
Though it's not possible to point it to the "C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\i386"
folder. The [OK] button is not active then.

Go to the hidden Windows\Inf folder, r-click usb.inf and take Install
That ought to get usbccgp into place

Thank you so much !

The main reason why things didn't work as they should have was that there
was no "usb.inf" file in the \Windows\inf\ folder. So I extracted the
"usb.in_" from the Windows XP CD into the right folder and now all my
devices are installed properly.

Thanks again !
