Generic Icons

My computer rebooted throughout the night and then prompted me for a
password in the morning.

When I had successfully logged on I noticed that icons on the desktop had
turned generic and that any documents saved have also turned generic.

Some programmes refuse to run via the start menu as well.

Any help?

System restore doesn't have any restore points.

Any other options?

Luke

Odd... you should look into that. Did you follow all the way through
it?

FWIW, I had the same problem with the icons. All my MS-Office icons
went generic for no apparent reason. I had restore points but I did
not want to use them since I'd been customizing a lot of things that
day. I ended up re-installing Office (repair did not cut it). That
fixed the menu options but the shortcuts I had on the desktop direct
to Word, PPT, Excel, and Access still didn't work. I ended up
re-creating those manually. I still had some menu options that didn't
work properly but since I had real work to do I just used the desktop
items that worked. Months later, everything has mysteriously repaired
itself.

Just another Vista "feature" I guess...
